Chipseal vote
The documents for the vote on chipsealing RPR were sent out today. In order for the vote to count we must receive back votes from 51% of the lots eligible to vote. To be eligible to vote the assessment must be current. We ask that your response be returned by Aug 15.
This year’s annual meeting is scheduled for August 27, 10:30am at the Eastsound Fire Station.
7/9/16
There was some information left out of the letter that accompanied the chipseal numbers
Region A is from Buckhorn to 675 Raccoon Point Road
Region B is from Coho Point Road to the mailboxes at the start of RPOA property
Region C is all the lots past the RPOA mailboxes
7/10/16
- Will the costs be spread over several years or must it be paid in one year? Ans: The vote has to pass first before the terms for payment terms are worked out. If the vote passes the payment terms will be voted on at the next annual meeting.
- What will happen to the annual assessment? Will it increase or be reduced or stay about the same? Ans: Assessments may go down but we need to bank $160,000 for the next go round on chipsealing. This has been discussed many times at the annual meeting.
- What to the idea that everyone would pay the same rather than paying by zone? Ans: It was not considered because the membership did not vote for that as an option. Split was calculated the same as the assessments

******************************
Island Excavating has started the grading within RPOA and will be moving down the road towards the end of the week. The following are some words of wisdom from RPRMA Board that we have gained over the last ten years.
We have seen that by “taking it easy” on the road the first few weeks it can really help set the new gravel and make the smooth surface last longer.
So, we recommend the following at all times, but particularly in the first few weeks:
– slow down, 20 mph max really makes a difference as it reduces the suspension bounce effect that starts and propagates potholes
– use four wheel drive when on the gravel surface, particularly on steep hills and tight turns. This reduces acceleration washboard.
– if you don’t have 4 wheel drive you really need to drive slow. Anything above 20mph causes the vehicle to bounce while gaining traction and adds to the pothole problems on the hill.
– don’t drive in the rut (wheel tracks) all the time, if you can and its safe, drive on parts of the road outside the ruts and help compact/harden the other sections of the road. Hardened surface causes water to run off road rather than soak in and stay soft
– if you anticipate having contractors work on your site, be sure to tell them about above so they don’t add to the problem.
Here is a web post that gives some additional context.
