Raccoon Point Road – some history

JamieCier

Some history of Raccoon Point Road as gathered by Ned Kirschbaum and collected by Rick Fant

In the 1960s the Buckhorn Corp. owned and was selling for development the initial areas surrounding a private logging road now known as Raccoon Point Road. This was a privately owned road extending from the County road to the eastern boundary of Government Lot 6 and provided each property owner with permanent easement access. The road, listed as a tax Lot, was initially owned and maintained by the Buckhorn Corp. It was later sold to the Lister family in the late 1970s or early 1980s when they purchased the Williams residence (tax Lot 1707-440-08). At approximately this same time Mr. Mclntosh desired to develop his adjoining property at Raccoon Point. The County required him to widen and regrade the road for access to his property to a 20 ft. width. The road tax Lot has since been purchased by the Raccoon Point Association. The road was listed as tax Lot number 1707-440-17, extending from the intersection with Buckhorn Rd. to the east section line of Gov. Lot. 6, which is also the east property line of tax Lots 1707-440-14 and 1707-440-15, where it was originally chained closed.
